Finalists of Talent 2030 National Schools Engineering Competition

The Talent 2030 National Schools Engineering Competition challenges potential engineers to investigate a problem that we face in the 21st century. Moreton’s team of Phoebe, Xinyuan (Rita), Lingzhi (Cherry), Luqi, Siyu (Suzanna) and Florence decided to tackle the problem of excessive quantities of waste water around the house. The project required the team to research the work of existing engineers, to develop new ideas and to design a solution to the problem. The girls investigated ways in which wastewater could be treated to allow it to be reused for other purposes. They proposed a method that would allow wastewater from the sink to be used hygienically and efficiently to flush the toilet and therefore significantly decrease water usage.

The team were required to submit a presentation describing their research and their concept for a solution.

The team have been selected for the final round of the competition and their project will now be further assessed by a team of engineers. As part of this process, the team have been asked to display their project on a dedicated stand at the Big Bang Fair at the NEC on Saturday 19th March. The Big Bang Fair is the UK’s largest celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for young people.
