Last week saw the School’s first ‘Mindfulness’ course begin for Upper 5 and Lower 6.
Mindfulness is all about learning to direct our attention to our experiences as it is unfolding, moment by moment, with open minded curiosity and acceptance. Rather than worrying about what has happened or might happen; it trains us to respond skilfully to whatever is happening right now, be that good or bad.
Emerging evidence base suggests that mindfulness has a wide range of potential applications, such has helping to address mental health and well-being, and contributing directly to the development of cognitive and performance skills.
After the taster session last week those pupils who have signed up will undertake a dot-Be course for 8 weeks of one hourly session per week, which is being funded by the school.
It is our intention to begin a rolling program for all pupils in the school over the next two years, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to take part in a course, if they wish.
