A talented, budding artist from Moreton Hall’s Sixth Form has recently been accepted onto a prestigious art programme titled ‘Raising the Bar’. Ruth, from Lower Sixth, submitted a strong portfolio of work showcasing her style and her aptitude with a range of artistic techniques to the Ruthin Craft Centre. She beat fierce competition and will now take her place amongst 15 other aspiring artists on a four day course at Manchester Metropolitan University on 14th December.
‘Raising the Bar’ is a programme established by Ruthin Craft Centre for more able and talented AS and A Level students in Denbighshire. The scheme offers additional opportunities for those showing artistic merit to enable access to high level artistic practice; promoting engagement with contemporary practitioners and access to specialist techniques additional to those available in schools.
On learning she had been accepted onto this programme, Ruth commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity to practice Art beyond the school curriculum. With this, I can stand out from the crowd as it demonstrates how passionate I am about this subject. Not only am I excited to get involved with such a fantastic local gallery, but the chance to work with experts and their chosen mediums will be brilliant.”
During the four day course, students will be treated to one-to-one workshops with professional artists who will help attendees develop their craft. Ruth as a keen sculptor herself is particularly excited for the ceramic focus of this programme.
