Second Year of Success as Moreton Remains Undefeated

For the second year in a row, Moreton Hall has qualified for the Midlands Regional Hockey Tournament. The girls battled hard through difficult conditions to come second in the Shropshire U18 County Tournament, fending off several local rivals in the process including Shrewsbury School, and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College. They played four matches in total, winning two and drawing two to remain undefeated throughout.

“Our success was a result of the team coming together and working with each other,” explained Captain Tira Brown (U6). “We have been working hard on our 1-2 passing, and concentrating on unlocking defences through team work and communication. We have a number of younger players in forward positions and it was rewarding to see them stepping up; they got better and better with each game. Defensively we only conceded one goal in four matches, which was a fantastic statistic to take away.”

“Our game against Ellesmere was a particular highlight. Both teams are really out to win, and the fact they are local rivals really drove the team forwards. Our early goal was a fantastic start; it was disappointing to concede an equaliser so late in the game, but I am delighted with the team’s performance.”
