Senior Mathematics Challenge: Best Results Ever

Senior Mathematics Challenge: Best Results Ever

Last week 61 girls (mostly A Level Mathematicians) entered the Senior Mathematics Challenge. This competition, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, tests mathematical aptitude above and beyond the normal school curriculum; specifically it tests cognitive skills and the ability to think "outside the box".

Moreton Hall girls achieved our best ever set of results. 42 girls received an award (9 Gold, 18 Silver and 15 Bronze). Congratulations to all involved, especially the Gold Award winners: Phoebe Jackson, Georgina Lang, Yihao (Pauline) Ji, Lingzhi (Cherry) Qiao, Changyi (Sherry) Li, Wenxin (Nicole) Xu, Xinyi Fan, Kaiching (Jessie) Kan and Xinyuan (Rita) Luo. All 9 of the "Golden Girls" will participate in a follow-on competition later this month.

Particular congratulations must go to the top 4 girls, who achieved a score of over 104 points (the level at which candidates qualify for the Senior British Mathematical Olympiad). Phoebe and Georgina will tackle the Olympiad on 27 November. The other 2 top-scorers, Pauline and Cherry, are sadly not eligible to participate for nationality reasons. Scores of this level represent a truly exceptional achievement: as far as we are aware, these are the first ever Moretonians to qualify for the Senior Olympiad.
