Shropshire County Champions

Moreton Hall players made up the majority of the Shropshire U15 A and B teams that won the County Lacrosse Tournament held at Brooklands Lacrosse Club this weekend.

Results:

A Squad - All Moreton girls apart from one

v Yorkshire - Won 12 - 2
v Cheshire - Won 10 - 6
v Lancashire - Won 19 - 2

MVP - Shropshire player of the tournament (voted by other coaches) - Milly Home

Having won the first match against Yorkshire quite comfortably, the toughest game for the U15A was against Cheshire, who have won the tournament every year since this competition started at U15 level in 2007. The Shropshire team, which for this match consisted entirely of Moreton players, used their tactical awareness and skills to excellent effect. After a quick 1 minute time out to settle a few nerves, the team got into their stride and took control of the game, finishing as fairly comfortable winners, much to the chagrin of the Cheshire team. In the final match against Lancashire, the team ended the day in style by using lots of the strategies which they worked so hard all term. Congratulations also to Mrs Lewin and Miss Harrington for coaching the team with such knowledge and astuteness on this particular day as well as all term.

B Squad - All Moreton girls apart from four from Shrewsbury

v Yorkshire - Won 13 - 4
v Cheshire - Won 9 - 2
v Lancashire - Won 12 - 1

MVP - Alice

Before the first match the B team were slightly nervous, but soon got into their stride once they started their match against Yorkshire and after a couple of early goals, they dominated the first half. Yorkshire played better in the second half, but nevertheless Shropshire B notched up their first win, thanks in part to some fine saves by Alyesha in Goal. For the second match the team started to gel and the defence unit were more effective. After two wins they went into the last match in a confident frame of mind and played well as team, therefore thoroughly deserving to be winners and retain the trophy which they won last year.

A fantastic day for both squads of players. It is the first time Shropshire A's have won the tournament, so a wonderful achievement for our U15's particularly as they played so well throughout the day.
