Moreton Hall has a strong tradition of success in sport, reflected in the outstanding results achieved by the teams every year.
In the autumn and spring term both lacrosse and hockey are played as the two major sports. Girls have the opportunity to play both sports, with a full fixture list.
Lacrosse has been played at Moreton for nearly 100 years, competing successfully at national, regional and county level. The school has access to the best national coaches and training facilities as well as offering the provision of lacrosse coaching to local schools and clubs. Fixtures in lacrosse are mainly played on Saturdays from U12 through to 1st Team level. In March the U15 A & B and the 1st and 2nd Teams compete in the National Schools Lacrosse Championships where all the top girls’ schools compete. Last year the 1st and U15 Teams were placed in the top 10 schools nationally.
Hockey is played to an equally high standard, with Moreton representing Shropshire annually at the Midland Regional Zone finals. Many girls from across the age groups are involved in the County hockey teams each year, with three girls in the U15 age group making it into the Midlands Tier 1 Training squads this year. Hockey is played from U12 through to 1st Team with specialist coaching at each level. Fixtures are mainly played on Wednesdays and on the occasional Saturday.
In the spring term Netball is played within curriculum lessons and fixtures are put in place on Wednesday afternoons. Netball is a developing sport and fixtures allow girls with no experience of lacrosse or hockey to play competitively.
In the summer term Tennis and Athletics are the two major sports which students compete in. Specialist coaching is provided in both sports with a full fixture list. Private tennis coaching takes place all year. Athletes have access to Queensway Athletics Stadium in Wrexham and compete up to regional level. Rounders is also played during the summer term along with Cricket, which is one of our newly developing sports.
Since the opening of our new indoor swimming pool, competitive and social swimming takes place all year round. With two local swimming clubs and Moreton’s own swimming school, students have the opportunity to train to a competitive level.
All students are encouraged to take part in all the sports on offer with coaching sessions provided during lessons, on Wednesday afternoons and during the activity slots during the week.
There is a great variety of additional sports on offer which include: Badminton, Basketball, Football, Aerobics, Pilates, Zumba, Volleyball, Cricket, Canoeing/Kayaking, Sailing, Fencing, Table Tennis, and Riding.
