Moreton’s U14 Lacrosse squad travelled to Surrey Sports Park in Guildford for three days of Lacrosse, playing in a festival alongside the Senior Women’s World Cup. The girls’ also had their first taste of University life whilst staying in halls of residence on site.
The festival was played over three days, with a round robin tournament on the first two days. Moreton’s girls beat Lady Eleanor Holles, Guildford, Berkhamsted and an ‘All Stars’ team, with just a couple of narrow losses against Benenden and ‘Comets’ (an American team). Moreton finished fourth overall, which was a fantastic result considering the high standard of opposition.
Other highlights of the trip included getting the opportunity to play a demonstration match against Lady Eleanor Holles for Princess Anne as she arrived by helicopter for the opening ceremony. The girls also had the opportunity to talk to and have photos taken with England Lacrosse players as well as those from some of the other 24 nations playing in the World Cup. They learnt so much from watching numerous high class matches and the masterclass performance from the Canadian player, Dana Dobbie, whilst playing against Australia, is something many will never forget.
