With the summer term in full swing, the Moreton tennis teams have been excelling with wins, both home and away, in some challenging fixtures.

The 1st team were off to a flying start beating King’s School Chester 8-1 on Wednesday 3rd May. The success against King’s was mirrored by the U15 team who won their Aegon League match 5-1 against Shrewsbury Girls’ High School.

On Thursday 4th May the fixture was a little different as the 1st team played a friendly match against the Ladies from The Shrewsbury Club. It was a lovely sunny evening and some excellent sporting skill was on display. The Moreton teams mixed their pairings to play with different partners in each round. Overall the Moreton girls played extremely well and won some tight rounds 6-4, they relished the opportunity to play against some very skilled players.

The 2nd team won 7-2 against Ellesmere College on a cold 6th May. The weather did not, however, deter the players as some excellent individual and team victories were achieved with Rosie and Carys winning all three of their matches. The Moreton U14 team were considerably stronger than their opposition and won the match very easily 4 – 0, only dropping one game out of 4 sets.

Meanwhile, similar victories were seen at King Edwards High School as four Moreton girls took part in the 106th Midland Girls School U18 Tennis Tournament. There was an excellent standard of tennis in Division 1, and Moreton players Flo and Camilla certainly rose to the challenge finishing 3rd out of 7 schools. They saw some solid wins over Shrewsbury School and Tudor Hall.

In Division 2 Melody and Alice also finished 3rd out of 7 schools. They achieved some excellent wins over Shrewsbury School, Tudor Hall, and King Edwards.
