Weather vane on the Stables boarding houseMoreton Hall’s development plan focuses upon the needs of the pupils in the school.

In recent years, we have built two new boarding houses for Sixth formers: Charlesworth (2003) and Rylands (2008); created a floodlit all-weather playing surface, providing 9 tennis courts and a county sized hockey pitch (2005) and built an indoor swimming pool (2008).

A wholesale refurbishment of all boarding facilities is almost complete and over the next four years the replacement of older classroom buildings will be complete.

A new Science Centre will enable the increasing number of girls who study Science at A Level - currently more than 50% - to develop their skills and talents in facilities of the highest quality. The environmentally-friendly building will capitalise on Moreton’s exceptional record in biological and environmental studies; it will be sited next the school’s ‘green classroom’ in an area that provides a wealth of investigative and research opportunities. We hope links with the local community will ensure the building may also be a resource for them.

So much for physical changes to the school site. The school’s development plan also takes into account changes in society - and in education.

The establishment of First Steps Nursery and the development of Moreton First has seen little boys at Moreton for the first time since 1927! Boys in Moreton First move school at aged 11+. There are no plans for Moreton Hall senior school to become a co-educational school. We know that there is a market for high quality, single-sex education and we intend to keep faith with parents - and pupils - who have chosen Moreton for its atmosphere and achievements as a girls’ only school.

In a society where academic achievement is not sufficient in itself to guarantee success beyond university, we believe that two important aspects of education must be highlighted:

  • skills acquisition
  • social responsibility

The diverse activities programme is compulsory throughout the school.

Additionally, in Lower Sixth (Year 12) all girls must choose to follow a practically based skill - including our famous Moreton Enterprise programme. All girls are asked to assume a leadership role as a house prefect, school prefect, team captain or activity leader.
