Major Success for First Lacrosse Team
On Friday 1st March the 1st Lacrosse Team competed in the Annual U19 National Schools Lacrosse Championships held at Imperial College Sports Grounds, London. Fifty six 1st Teams were competing in the Championships, with 7 schools in each of the 8 sections.
Moreton's 1st Team had an exceptional first day scoring a total of 35 goals and only 4 against them and only one loss in the final game of the day. They played the following:
v St George's, Harpenden WON 7-0
v St Swithuns C WON 6-2
v St James WON 9-1
v Walthamstow Hall WON 6-0
v Westonbirt WON 7-0
v Wycombe Abbey Lost 0-1
These results secured the 1st Team a place in the Championship Group on day two, which includes the Top 14 schools. Left behind after day one were many larger rivals such as Cheltenham Ladies College, Stowe, Marlborough College, Malvern St, James, Haberdashers Monmouth, St Helen's and St Katherine's, Queen Anne's Caversham, Queen Margaret's and Harrogate Ladies College.
It was a tough day of play however in true style the Moreton players fought hard in every match. After losing their first 4 matches by narrow margins the Moreton 1st Team were determined not to go home without a win and produced some outstanding games of Lacrosse by beating Haberdashers Aske School for Girls 2-1 and Beneden School in their last match 2-0. This was an outstanding achievement by a Moreton Team which has secured them 12th place overall in the country. The teams they played on day 2 were:
