Beautiful Readings from Book of Common Prayer
Pupils from Moreton First to Upper 6 took part in the annual Sarah Parkes Competition, reading from the Book of Common Prayer. The competition, created by Dr Giles Parkes in memory of his late daughter, Sarah, was once again judged by Colonel Hewitt.
Eliza Kiel (U4) and Lexie Samuel (U4) were placed first and second in the Junior category, in which fourteen students competed. They write: “We have to choose a reading from the Thomas Cranmer Book of Common Prayer and practice reading it. It requires a different approach to poetry recital or prose reading, so it is another skill we have learnt. We have to articulate every word which requires a very thorough understanding of our readings. It is a bit nerve-wracking, but we get a lot out of the experience.”
The senior catergory comprised of twenty four competitors. Senior winners were: Mary Richardson (First) and Georgina Lang (Second).
