Moreton has a large and active Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme with around 130 girls in the school taking part at any one time. The majority of girls complete their Bronze Award in Lower 5.
During Upper 5, a smaller number of girls begin preparing for their Gold award by undertaking a series of pre-Gold training activities including map reading and first aid. Girls are able to enrol on the Gold Award as soon as they reach their 16th birthday and continue working towards that award for the remainder of Upper 5 and throughout their time in Moreton Sixth.
The award scheme is non-competitive and helps candidates to develop confidence and a sense of responsibility. The areas of Skill, Physical Recreation, Service and Expedition combine to produce a rounded individual and the completion of awards gives pupils a sense of achievement and a valuable addition to their C.V. It must, however, be noted that the D of E Gold Award requires a significant commitment in terms of time and effort and is not necessarily suitable for all girls.
