Rachael Knapton (Year 12) writes:
Getting boys to play the lead roles in an all girls school production of the 1970s hit musical grease, was a brave move. Not least for the boys themselves. It’s a move that has paid off however with Tom Morgan as Danny Zuko and Harry Allmark as Kenicke, adding an extra spice into the mixture.
Although the production is an adaptation of the original film it still maintains its engaging warmth and its ability to get people dancing in the aisles. Supported by the boisterous T-birds, glamorous pink ladies and a full chorus, the Moreton Hall Senior production remains faithful to the musicality and vitality of the original hit film.
And in order to make this work in a theater environment, the production included a traverse stage, which both emphasised the separation between the Pink Ladies' bedroom and the T-birds' hangout and at the same time brings the audience right into the middle of the action. All of which sets the scene for a fabulous musical trip down memory lane exploring he idyllic American teenage dream.
Parent, Pam Webb adds: "As usual a professional and joyous musical production worthy of a West End stage, but this time the Moreton Hall Drama and Music departments further excelled by drawing out such perfect individual performances from the girls (and boys) that we, the audience really believed we were at Rydel High too!"
