The Moreton team consisting of Tamsin, Fenella, Tibby, and Tillie entered into The Land Rover Inter Schools Show Jumping Competition 90/95cm which took place in The Frogmore Arena in Windsor. Thirty four school teams had entered from around the UK.
Moreton had qualified at SouthView Equestrian Centre with a team of four riders who all jumped double-clear rounds to qualify on a very competitive score of zero faults.
As with the rest of the UK, Windsor suffered from unseasonably cold weather and torrential rain on the Thursday which turned the lorry parks and stables into a quagmire. The ground staff then spent Friday spreading straw everywhere to attempt to dry up the ground. With the weather turning kinder by Saturday, things began to look better.
As the show jumping competition was very heavily over-subscribed with entries, the teams were requested to reduce down to three riders, so very regretfully, Tamsin went as reserve rider.
Tamsin commented: “As I was not on a horse I had the job of keeping track of the scores. Before the competition got down to the last 15 out of 38, there was only one team clear so Moreton needed to go clear. Although it was terrifying from the outside all three team members looked very controlled and did three lovely clears which left them in fifth place.”
The course was jumped on grass and the ground was soft. Jumps were imaginative and up-to-height. The early show jumping rounds saw no teams jump clear and Moreton, who were the twenty eighth team to go, had only the third team clear so everyone was nervous watching the final teams jump. In the end, Moreton were in the ribbons.
Onlooking parent Mrs Galliers summed it up: “It was a fantastic show; the girls all rode brilliantly. It was nice that all the girls jumped one after the other.”
