Moreton Hall has a thriving and award winning music department with excellent facilities, a wide range of musical activities, first-class musical tuition and an outstanding track-record of results at GCSE and A Level. Regular concerts and five musicals per year consistently attain high levels of musical achievement at all levels within the school. Music-making really is one of the key fundamentals of Moreton Hall's educational experience.

Eight individual 'open-door' practice rooms, all with good quality pianos, allow students to practice as often as they like. Two well-equipped and dedicated music teaching rooms use ICT and good quality modern instruments, enhancing lesson teaching. The large Musgrave theatre is an excellent performance arena and helps students grow in confidence.

All Year 5 to 9 pupils receive one hours classroom music lesson per week. Lessons are largely practical in nature and are taught by music specialists. Topics such as film music, world music, improvisation and classical genres are just some of the areas studied. As part of Moreton First's Expressive Arts lessons, each pupil will receive free tuition on an instrument.

Moreton Hall has a wide range of musical groups and ensembles for all ages and abilities, there's always something going on!

Music tours abroad take place every two years and give the girls the opportunity to perform in larger venues whilst experiencing different cultures. Recent tours have visited prestigious venues such as St. Marks Basilica in Venice, St. Nicholas' Church in Prague and visits to Boston, Barcelona and Paris. Our musicians regularly impress their overseas audiences and have been told they are not just great ambassadors for their school, but for their country!

All Moreton's visiting teachers are professional musicians and have active and extensive composing and performing experience.
We have specialist tutors for unusual instruments and can offer mentoring by an ABRSM examiner. Over 400 instrumental lessons take place each week in all orchestral instruments, percussion, voice, piano and in acoustic and electric guitars. All who have individual tuition are able to perform in our lunchtime concerts, as well as our more formal internal and external concerts throughout the year.

Moreton Hall is committed to developing promising and talented musicians. Scholarships are available for applicants who demonstrate the very highest levels. We encourage applications from any promising musicians who show a high level of commitment and potential in their chosen instrument.
