Six excellent orators from Upper Four competed in the Debate-Ed Competition on Saturday 11th March. The event took place at Shrewsbury University and was sponsored by Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors. The six speakers; Charlotte, Elin, Coco, Emma, Sofia and Amira were split into three separate teams as they all took part in three scheduled debates throughout the day.
The two teams consisting of Charlotte and Elin, Coco and Emma won at least one of their debates ensuring they progressed to the finals. In the final the Moreton teams faced two teams from Meole Brace. The students debated and spoke eloquently on the topic: “This house would hold a second referendum before we leave the E.U.”
The Moreton team consisting of Emma and Coco were placed second overall and Emma was heralded the third best speaker in the competition.
Head of Spoken English, Merriel Halsall-Wiliams, commented: “It was a really great day and a fantastic result for first time competitors in this event. The girls should be really proud of themselves.”
