Moreton’s U16 Hockey team continue to up their game with an impressive performance at the England Hockey Tier 3 Regional Finals at Repton School. Moreton qualified for the tournament earlier this year after winning the Shropshire tournament.
To begin the tournament Moreton were put in a group with Kingsley School, who they beat 2-0 and Nottingham High School who they lost to 2-1. This progressed them through to the quarter finals against Wrekin College. This was a tight game, with Wrekin College taking an early lead, but with an impressive corner score from Gracie the game equalised to 1-1 at half time. The second half of the match saw both teams score leaving the final result at 2-2 and the game went to penalties. Moreton took their penalties confidently and Ella made two fantastic saves in goal. Moreton won 4-2 on penalties to progress to the semi-finals where they played Leicester Grammar, winning 1-0 thanks to a great goal from Libby.
They then progressed to the final to play Abbotsholme School. It was an even game with Abbotsholme School scoring the only goal of the game. As runners up in the Midlands Finals Moreton qualify for National Finals which will take place next term where they will be amongst the top eight schools in the country.
Head of Hockey Coaching, Chris Prosser, enthused: "I am incredibly proud of what the girls have achieved by qualifying for the National Finals next term. They were organised and disciplined, made very good decisions under high pressure and performed well on the pitch when it mattered most. They played against a number of experienced schools and they have learnt a lot from the experience."
