Last Thursday Years 8 and 9 went to the UKMT (United Kingdom Maths Trust) team Maths Challenge at Rydal Penrhos School where we secured fourth place. The competition consisted of four rounds and we were up against fourteen other schools.
Before lunch we completed two rounds: one where we had ten problems to solve in 45 minutes, and one called ‘Cross-number’. After both rounds we were in the top 5.
After lunch we had another two rounds to do. The first was the hardest of the four, where each question we did affected the next. The final round was the most fun because for each question that we answered, we had to run to the front of the hall and give it in before we could run back with the next question.
Although it was stressful at times, it was a very fun day. Our hard work paid off as we secured fourth place.
