It was an incredibly successful weekend of Lacrosse as not only were the Shropshire A and B teams crowned champions in the U18 North County Tournament, but also the 2nd Team and the U14/U15 team saw comfortable victories over Shrewsbury School.
On Saturday 5th November Moreton Hall hosted two Lacrosse matches against Shrewsbury School. The junior match was a combined U14/15 team and the Moreton team won quite convincingly with a victory of 18-4. The senior match was the Shrewsbury 1st team against the Moreton 2nd team. This was a keenly fought match with the home side edging ahead in the 2nd half to win 11-7.
The spirit of Saturday’s success was carried on to the following day where Moreton Hall hosted the U18 North Counties tournament for the first time. It was such a success that it looks certain Moreton Hall will be hosting it again. The preparation of the pitches and the grounds by Jody Wilson and his helpers were excellent and helped to allow the tournament to run smoothly. Miss Barnardo ran the scorer’s table with some very able sixth form volunteers and Mrs Dilks organised her team of umpires to cover 4 pitches of top class Lacrosse.
Mrs Lewin and Miss Harrington coached the Shropshire A team to convincing victories against Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire. The winning scores were 12-9, 12-5 and 16-5 respectfully. The U18 B team had a tougher route to their final success. They beat Cheshire 4-3 in a very close match, they beat Yorkshire 9-4 and in the final match they lost to Lancashire 5-6. Fortunately for Shropshire, Lancashire had lost to Cheshire by a bigger goal margin, so Shropshire retained the title which they won last year.
The majority of the Shropshire Lacrosse teams at all age groups are comprised of Moreton Hall players, this demonstrate the quality of Lacrosse at Moreton. Shropshire are currently the holders of all six North County trophies - U18 A and B, U15 A and B and U13 A and B. This is a tremendous achievement which encapsulates the effort and commitment shown by players and coaches.
