European Day of Languages 2012
Wednesday 26 Sep 2012
In Moreton First we enjoyed an exciting afternoon of activities to celebrate The European Day of Languages. The children (and grown-ups!) dressed up in costumes from all over Europe and enjoyed brioches, croissants and pains au chocolat which they had to order in French. Year 6 gave a special assembly and performed the French fairy story, ‘Le Chat Botte’ (Puss in Boots) after which they learnt about the artist Henri Matisse and tried to emulate his bold use of colour in their work. Year 5 tried Spanish dancing, German food and wrote phrases on their napkins in a variety of languages. Year 4 baked a delicious Quiche Lorraine, saw photos from that area of France as well as decorating T-shirts with multilingual phrases and flags. Year 3 made lavender bags, and enjoyed a German breakfast – coming back for lots of second helpings! KS1 went on a 'trip' to Paris with Barnaby Bear, enjoyed flamenco dancing and made flags from lots of different European countries. ‘I loved eating the pain au chocolat and drawing on my T-shirt,’ concluded Amelia Farmer, Year 4.
